History
The Monte's existence dates are uncertain, as they are derived from the known documentation. November 14th, 1554, is the date of the first report concerning the Monte; the exact year of foundation is not known. In any case, the institute was refounded in 1574. During the Napoleonic occupation, the Monte ceased its activity, to resume it in 1806. 1862 is the last year of which documentation is provided; it is not certain when the institute closed definitively.

Internal organization
The administration of Monte was originally entrusted to twelve Rectors, probably elected by the General Council of the community; from 1596, any decision went directly through the City Council, without referring to the Rectors anymore. Supervision of the institute was entrusted to the Commissioner of the province of Montefeltro. Workers at the Monte were the “conservatore dei pegni“ (conservator of pledges) and the “depositario del denaro“ (depositary of money), elected by the City Council. From 1678, the two offices were concentrated in one person, the “montista“.
