History
The Monte was established in 1473 by the initiative of Observant Franciscan preacher Fortunato da Perugia, thanks to a significant bequest by Donato Medici, the City Bishop. From the sixteenth century, designating administrators of the Monte became prerogative of the Grand Duke of Tuscany, until 1781. In the first half of the nineteenth century, the Monte also carried out the activity of mutual loans to Comuni and charitable trusts. In 1937, the institute was incorporated into Cassa di Risparmio di Pistoia e Pescia.
