History
The Monte was created with the heritage of Compagnie Laicali di Santa Maria del Pellegrinaggio, di San Lodovico e di Sant'Antonio di Montevarchi. Cosimo I de' Medici approved the supplication September, 1550. The Monte began its activity October 1st, 1551. Right from the start, pawnbroking to the poor of the city was also joined by another use of the Monte's capitals, as, in 1552, the establishment of Scuola dei Gesuiti. The institute reached the height of its fortune at the beginning of the nineteenth century, yet at the end of the century a slow, inexorable decline began. In 1939, it incorporated Monte di Sansepolcro and, in 1953, it was absorbed by Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze.
