History
The Monte was founded in 1484, after the preaching of Blessed Bernardine of Feltre. In 1630, the Monte was sacked by the imperial troops and therefore forced to close, but it was refounded in 1656. In 1731, the Monte was forced to close again due to insolvency. It was refounded in 1756 at the behest of Maria Teresa. The activity stopped once again during the Napoleonic occupation; resumed during the nineteenth century. With a decree dated December 21st, 1946, the institute was incorporated into the Monte di Credito su Pegno di Milano.

The documentation, found in 1999 at Banca Regionale Europea s.p.a., is a small part of the archive of the Monte, merged with the incorporation of the institute into the Monte di credito su Pegno di Milano, of which Banca Regionale Europea represents the continuation. In 2003, the fund was deposited at the Archivio di Stato di Mantova. Traces of th activities of the Monte di Pietà are recorded in the fund Ente Comunale di Assistenza (ECA) and Opere Pie Aggregate conserved in the historical archives of the Comune di Mantova (https://archiviocomunale.comune.mantova.it/index.php/accesso-alla-documentazione-amministrativa/note-storiche-per-fondi/76-archivio-congregazione-eca-di-mantova-e-opere-pie-aggregate-inventario/file)
