Monte di Pietà activities

History
An ancient tradition wants the Monte to have been founded after the preaching of a Franciscan observant in 1492. Certainly a foundation - possibly a second foundation - occurred in 1506, with the initiative of the preacher Antonio da Montemilone and receiving the approval of the Duke of Urbino on 4 March 1507. The institution had been founded by laymen and remained administered by the community until 1823, when the bishop of Fossombrone was designated president of the Monte. During the napoleonic period and then again from 1860 the Monte was administered by the local Congregazione di carità. From 1937 this was substituted by the Ente comunale di assistenza. In 1995 the exercise of credit was handed over to the Banca delle Marche and the Fondazione Monte di pietà di Fossombrone was instituted, inheriting the charitable mission of the Monte.
