History
Notwithstanding the approval received from the lords of Forlì, Girolamo Riario and Caterina Sforza, the preaching of the Franciscan observant Giovanni Novello da Siena in favour of the erection of a Monte in the city did not have any effect. It was only on 21 March 1511 that the city council decreed the institution of a Monte, following the preaching of another Franciscan observant, Orfeo Cancellieri da Bologna. Its first statutes were approved on 21 April 1512 and the Monte received the apostolic approval in 1519. In 1797 the Monte was spoliated of its assets. In 1807 it was aggregated to the local Congregazione di carità. With a decree by the president of the Republis dated 21 February 1948 the Monte was incorporated in the Cassa dei risparmi di Forlì, founded by the Monte itself in 1839.

The government of the Monte was initially entrusted to a council of five curators, which, already by the mid-sixteenth century, had grown to the number of twentyfour.

Archival history
Almost all the ancient documentation produced by the Monte has disappeared. What is preserved is at the Fondazione Cassa di risparmio di Forlì. It is not currently possible to give more precise information on the amount of documents preserved. Some eighteenth-century documents are also preserved at the Biblioteca Classica di Forlì, in the Raccolte Piancastelli.
