History
The Monte began its activity on January 13, 1508. When the papal conquest forced the Este dynasty to leave in 1598, the Monte failed, with a debt of 63 thousand scudi. The Monte, reorganized and reopened in 1602, was placed under the authority of the Cardinal Legate of Ferrara and the Giudice dei Savi. Due to the embezzlement of pledges and the theft of a large sum perpetrated by some unfaithful employees and officials, the institute experienced a new bankruptcy in 1646. The Monte resumed operations in 1671 after a complex financial operation. The Monte of Ferrara also suffered the spoliation of Napoleon in 1796 that forced it to close temporarily. Thanks to the diligence of the prefect Scopoli, in 1808 the Mount reopened its doors under the administration first of the Commissione della Benificienza pubblica, then of the Congregazione di Carità. This administration ended in 1815, when Ferrara returned under papal control. In 1929 it was incorporated by the Cassa di Risparmio di Ferrara.

Archival history
The archival fonds are partially incomplete due to the dispersion suffered over time, particularly during the Napoleonic period and during the Second World War. Convserved in the Historical Archive of Cassa di Risparmio di Ferrara since its absorption in 1929, in 2017 it passed under the control of BPER Banca following a merger by incorporation procedure. In February 2022 it was transferred to the Archivio di Stato of Ferrara.
