In 1781, it obtained autonomy from the central administration and was entrusted to a local civic magistrate. In 1940, it was absorbed by Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze, while the detached sections of Santa Croce sull'Arno and Cerreto Guidi were ceded to Cassa di Risparmio di San Miniato.
