History
The Monte was founded after the preaching of the franciscan observant Andrea Ronchi da Faenza, who also contributed to preparing its statutes and collected alms for its initial assets. The institute had some difficulties until the mid of the XVI century, but later imposed itself in the city's economic life, also extending its activity to credit and deposit. It surprisingly survived without any damage the French occupation. In 1807 it was entrusted to the Congregazione di carità. Its activity gradually diminished during the XIX century, until in 1909 its incorporation with the Ospedale degli Infermi was decreed, which became effective in 1912.
Activities
The Monte only worked with pawnbroking until mid XVI century. Then it also worked with credi and deposit and sometimes as treasury for the hospital and other corporations of the city.
Internal organization
Two officials administered the Monte up until the end of the XVIII century: a scrivano and a massaro. From 1824 they became six, a number which would not be change until its closure.

Archival history
The archive is a series of the fund "Archivio Opere Pie". Inside the series is also the documentation produced by the Congregazione di carità related to the Monte. Besides the seven boxes that compose the series there are preserved the first statutes of the Monte from 1492.
