Monte di Pietà activities

History
The Monte was founded by Arciconfraternita della Croce e della Disciplina dell'Ospedale di Caprarola, which in 1700 approved its constitution with a fund of 800 scudi, two hundred of which were given by Bishop Benedetto Panfili, its protector. The Monte was stripped of its belongings with the Napoleonic occupation in 1797. It was rebuilt in 1828 at the behest of the Arciconfraternita and then continued its activity until the beginning of 1870. It was then rebuilt under the administration of Congregazione della Carità and provided with a new statute in 1907, which attested both pawnbroking and bills of exchange. In 1916, a section called “Credito e risparmio“ was set up, which in 1921 appeared as autonomous and in 1937 would be merged into Cassa di Risparmio di Viterbo.
