Monte di Pietà activities

History
The Monte was established in 1492, following the preaching of Blessed Bernardine of Feltre in the city. However, the institute was opened only two years later, when the statutes were approved in Venice. In 1822, the Monte was reorganized by the Austrian government. By Ministerial Decree of May 28th, 1957, the institute was closed and went into liquidation.

Archival history
The ancient documentation of the Monte was completely destroyed in 1797, following the French occupation. At the State Archives of Venice, Avogaria de Comun, Miscellanea 237P, a Statute of the Monte completed in 1711 is kept.
