The monte was erected by the Confraternita di San Cassiano and obtained the consent of Duke Carlo Emanuele I di Savoia on 28 June 1586. The institute's asset rapidly grew in the first decade of the XVII century, to live florid and less florid phases in that and the following century. After the French occupation, the Monte was integrated in the city's Commissione esecutiva degli ospizi ed opere pie and continued its activity also after the Restoration. During the XIX century it was integrated in the Congregazione di carità and later in the Ente comunale di assistenza. It ceased its activity on 7 Semptember 1984, when a decree by the president of the Republic sanctioned its incorporation in the Cassa di risparmio di Biella.
