History
The Monte was certainly active by 1543, but the precise date of its foundation is not known. A set of statutes of the institution were approved by the bishop of Faenza in 1605. In 1807 it was aggregated to the Congregazione di carità of Ferrara, although it maintained its own autonomous administration, and later, in 1859, to the Congregazione di carità of Ravenna. From 1938 the Monte was left only with its lending activity, while the charitable activity was taken over by the newly-founded Istituzione Elemosiniera, created for this reason by the Congregazione di carità and which inherited all of the Monte's real estate assets. In 1957 it became part of the Banca del Monte of Ravenna.
Internal organization
The Monte, placed under the authority of the bishop of Faenza, was administered by a congregation of four presidents, two laymen and two clerics, a vicar named by the bishop, the archpriest of Bagnacavallo, the rectors of the church of San Michele, the guardian friar of San Francesco and a variable number of three or four senior citizens.
