History
The Monte was founded by the city's major council on 21 April 1557. Already in 1575 it was in trouble, due to the absence of a pontifical approval to exercise onerous credit, which was recorded by cardinal Carlo Borromeo during his visit. Having ceased its activity for some years, it reopened in 1589, having reduced its interest rates from 5 to 3%. After a period of forced inactivity following the French occupation, the Monte begun its activity again in the XIX century, when it was also administered by the local Congregazione di carità. It was this institution that decreed the Monte's liquidation in 1935, reopening it however in 1938 under the name of Monte di credito su pegno. Finally, the institution was incorporated by the Banca del Monte di Pavia in 1985.
